BLACKJACK
Description and Objective:
The game is over 3 centuries old and evolved from the French game ‘vingt-et-un’ (21). Playtech software uses 6 decks of cards, shuffled after every game. Whether you play alone or in the multi-player room you are only competing against the dealer. Your objective is to draw cards until your hand adds up to 21 or beats the dealer’s hand. If you go over 21 you bust and lose, regardless of the dealer’s total. If you and the dealer both have cards totaling 21, the result is a ‘push’ and your bet is returned.
‘Blackjack’ is an ace and a ten-value card (ten-value cards are the Jack, Queen and King) and beats all other hands. Blackjack pays 3 to 2.
Blackjack is one of the most popular games and there is no doubt that the most successful Blackjack players have developed particular strategies. In fact, blackjack has enjoyed more attention to playing method than probably most other casino games. In 1956, Roger Baldwin published a paper in the Journal of the American Statistical Association entitled “The Optimum Strategy in Blackjack”. This signified the start of a scientific approach to beating the dealer in blackjack. If just starting out, try to remember these simple guidelines:
The dealer will continue to take cards until they reach at least 16 and will stand once 17 is reached. Winning hands pay “even money”, Blackjack pays 3 to 2.
Aces are worth either 1 or 11. All picture cards are worth 10. If the dealer’s first card is an ace, you may place an Insurance bet as he may draw Blackjack. Insurance pays 2 to 1 if the dealer does get Blackjack. If the dealer does not get Blackjack you will lose your Insurance.
